Steinbeck, discipline, and self-doubt

There are a lot of reasons to love John Steinbeck's work (as I very much do), and here's another onea book called "Working Days," which is the journal Steinbeck kept whilst writing his Pulitzer-winning and culture-shifting novel, "The Grapes of Wrath."

Full of the honest self doubt that afflicts all creatives, it is a reminder that even the writers who've achieved the sort of things I want to have struggled against the same Resistance to their process that I fear will keep me from succeeding.

I considered summarizing the summary of the book that I've just read over on the Brain Pickings website, but instead I'll just direct you in that, erm, direction, so you can go read it for yourself.

Cheers.
