John Oliver: A Voice Crying out in the Wilderness (Because New York is a wilderness, right?)

John Oliver can be one profane dude.

This profanity is the reason I've refrained from posting an episode of his "Last Week Tonight" show on here, because (contrary to what my previous employers apparently thought), I do care about the fact that I have a widely varied audience on this blog of mine. I know some of y'all are rather conservative, so I make a concerted effort to avoid pissing them off without reason.

Except I just said "pissing you off," and anyway it's my birthday, so I can do whatever I want.

So I guess I might as well go ahead and tell you that I think John Oliver is acting the role of a modern-day prophet with this new TV show of his. I think that for whatever reason (most likely because the network he's on has an ad-free delivery model, and he's therefore not beholden to big business), John Oliver has been consistently speaking the Truth to Power.

Here's the latest episode, in which he exposes the Payday Loan Industry for the Evil that it is:

Oliver's covered a number of other important topics, and I think you'd be well-put to watch ALL of them. One at a time, of course, and spread over months -- because there's only so much really-pissed-off-ness that any one human being can take.

Here he is on:

OUR UNJUST WEALTH INEQUALITY

OUR SEVERELY BROKEN PRISON SYSTEM

OUR TERRIFYING NUCLEAR WEAPONS-STUPIDITY

OUR PRESIDENT CONSORTING WITH ROBOTS

Ok, so... maybe that last one isn't quite a major issue (although he does get in a good dig at the end). I still think you should give this man a listen, though, because some things really are worth getting pissed off about.
