scratches from the past

Some of my students have been thumbing through old sketchbooks of mine, from back in the days before I got so obsessed with writing that I stopped taking nearly enough time for pictures. I started to wonder what it was they were looking at, and upon inspection decided that there were some bits and pieces in there that were sort of interesting. So I think I'm going to start adding a few at a time to my picasa art album. A lot of these old sketches give insight into my process for some of my paintings, and they all tend to show what a sick, sick headcase I really am. Here are a couple of the first ones I scanned.
